Student Leadership

Student Leadership at Lockington Consolidated School

At Lockington Consolidated School, we value the development of student leadership and provide opportunities for students to take on important roles within the school community.

Each year in Term 4, we hold elections for School Captains, Vice-Captains, and Sports Captains for the following school year. These leadership positions are open to students who demonstrate responsibility, integrity, and a willingness to represent their peers. Candidates prepare and deliver speeches to an audience of senior and middle school students, along with staff, after which students and staff cast their votes. This democratic process ensures that our student leaders are chosen fairly and reflect the values and voice of the school community.

Leadership development is encouraged at all year levels, not just through formal captain roles. Students are given the chance to build their leadership skills by taking on responsibilities within their classrooms and across the school—whether by leading group activities, helping to organise events, representing their class, or supporting peers. These everyday opportunities help foster confidence, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility in all our students. Students in Years 3-6 have the opportuntity to be a part of our Student Action Team. Each class elects two representatives to join the team. The Student Action Team work alongside a member of staff to design and organise special events throughout the year such as free dress days, fundraising days for community organisations and special lunches. The student Action Team also meet to discuss issues and initiatives that have been raised by their classmates during class meetings. These actions are then discussed with the principal and other staff and can bring about change that reflects the needs and wants of our students.
